Digital Negative Selections

I used photoshop to convert my photos to digital negatives in order to show the lines in the architecture in more detail. This also created a more intense contrast within the images with the white lines on the darker, black background.

Darkroom Prints

I then printed positives of the selections onto acetate. Using these I took them into the darkroom and printed them onto photograph paper.

In some areas the chemicals from the darkroom remained on the paper creating the patches

Physical Montage

I then cut out the acetate just around the buildings layering different buildings together , especially combining old and new architecture together.

I then scanned and inverted my darkroom images to create positives. when this was done it made any imperfections in the paper and acetate more prominent. This give the images a more handmade and aged feel. This creates an interesting contrast when the more modern, glass buildings are printed with the older, traditional photography style.
